The Red Well-Read Reader
Story 268
Rose
In summer Rose usually arose a couple minutes after the sun rose. Near the
day’s close she would dress in gardening clothes to work her garden with
water hose and raking hoes.
Then afterward she’d get herself into a comfortable pose to watch some TV
shows. Soon again she’d finds greater repose and begin to doze.
Story 269
Had He Known
The cowboy should have known not to ride the full-grown bucking roan,
because sky high he was thrown.
When he landed he let out a loud groan. For four hours he
could do nothing but moan.
A whole week went by before his ill fate was finally known:
soon he'd join his dead wife Joan.
