SPELLING
Grade Level: First Grade and Above
Prerequisite: Play Onwards and Decoding Game
Skill Developed: Ability to spell monosyllabic words in all their phonemic forms. In other words,
acquiring the knowhow to spell virtually any by combining consonant and consonant
blends with the various roots of the English language.
Objective: To spell any monosyllabic word as well as the few bi-syllabic words printed on
backside of the cards.
How to Play: With players seated so that they cannot see the computer display, the parent/teacher picks a
word and reads it out loud, or has Natural Reader do so. (To avoid homonyms, occasionally two or more words
must be asked per turn. For example, play and pray on Card 33a must be asked together to distinguish the
latter word from its homonym prey on Card 34a, which likewise must be asked with a similarly spelled word,
namely ley or they.) Players take turns answering.
Scoring: One point is awarded for each word spelled correctly.
