VOCABULARY
Grade Level: Second Grade and Above
Prerequisite: Decoding Game, Play Onwards, and Work on Words
Skill Developed: Ability to define virtually any monosyllabic words as well as common derivatives
sharing the same stem, i.e. root or family.
Objective: To cite the meanings of the various words on the backside of cards.
How to Play: This game may be played in two ways: For young players, they themselves should choose the
words that they will attempt to define. And for older players, the parent should pick the words according to
their ability. (Students of different ability may play the game at the same time. On such an occasion, the
teacher should pick commonly used words for beginners and less frequently used ones for advanced students.)
Notes: One: whenever a word needs to be looked up by the online dictionary, the parent left clicks on it
twice, then right clicks on it once. After doing so, the word will appear in the bottom box of the
drop-down menu; she should click on it.
Scoring: One point is awarded for each word defined correctly. (No points are awarded for grammatical
correctness in this game.)
