Economics
(Edexcel)
Economics is a subject that can be started in Year 12 without prior knowledge of the subject
at GCSE level. Pupils will study the way that society uses resources and allocates them to
produce goods and services. The role of government and the external influences on the
economy form a vital part of the course.
The following topics are studied at AS level:
• Theme 1: Introduction to markets and market failure
• Theme 2: The UK economy-performance and policies
Pupils going on to A2 complete the following:
• Theme 3: Business behaviour and the labour market
• Theme 4: A global perspective
All units are assessed by external examination at the end of Year 13.
Entry requirements:
Grade 6 in GCSE Maths and English are preferred.
