Further Mathematics
(Edexcel)

Further Mathematics qualifications are prestigious and are strongly welcomed by universities,
as they are recognised as being more rigorous than a standard A level. Any pupil planning to
take a mathematics related degree will benefit enormously from taking Further Mathematics,
at least to AS level, as they will be introduced to new topics such as matrices and complex
numbers.
We follow the Edexcel course for Further Mathematics but there is more flexibility with the
modules that make up the course. This year, Further Mathematicians are studying Further
Pure Mathematics and Decision Mathematics in addition to the core material.
Further Mathematics can be studied as an AS level in Year 12 or as a full A level over two
years, in parallel with the Mathematics course.
Entry requirements:
Grade 8 or 9 at GCSE.
