Detailed Component Descriptions
Chapter 1: Introduction
Network Communications Board
The Master Alarm and Area Alarm are stand-alone units unless the optional
Network Communications Board is installed in the Area Alarm. In that case;
you can browse, download, configure, and troubleshoot Master Alarms and
Area Alarms with a personal computer that is connected to the facility’s
Ethernet. The alarm’s Web pages are built-in; no setup is required.
NOTE:
The Area Alarm Module High and Low setpoints which can be configured
only by using their front panels.
When an alarm condition occurs, each Master Alarm can send electronic
messages to up to five users. In addition, the entire MedPlus TotalAlert™
Alarm Network can be remotely monitored over the Internet.
System Power Supply
Each rough-in assembly or back box assembly for the original version of the
MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network has its own power supply, which is
installed at the factory.
The power supply for the MedPlus TotalAlert™ Alarm Network Conversion
Kits is a single sub-assembly that is installed in an existing rough-in box.
Each power supply converts the facility’s 120 V AC 60 Hz power to 20 V AC
to operate the alarm. This unit contains the main power switch, transformer,
main fuse, and terminal block.
NOTE:
The Local Alarm is not available as a conversion kit.
Transducers
Each transducer is factory-programmed for the specific type of gas or vacuum
shown on its housing. Transducers convert the gas or vacuum pressure into a
digital signal, then they send that signal to the corresponding Area Alarm
Module. If the transducers are not connected to the appropriate gas-specific
Area Alarm Module, an error message (A07) displays on the Area Alarm
Module. The transducers are connected to Area Alarm Modules with stranded,
twisted-pair, shielded cable (two shielded wires). To ensure dependable
operation, the cable should not be greater than 4500' (1372 m) in length.
