moment and thus reducing the stresses on the pedicle
screws. To maximize ease of insertion, the use of pre-
bent rods are an option, or use straight rods and bend
the rod such that it passes each screw roughly 90
degrees from the axis of the screw. Perform rod
bending outside the operative field using the French
Rod Bender. This is best accomplished by a series of
small adjustments which will bend the rod gradually and
ensure even stress distribution due to bending.
Rod Insertion:
Once the rod is ready for insertion, load the rod onto
the Rod Introducer. The rod is loaded by aligning the
slot on the rod with the pin on the Rod Introducer, and
advancing the locking sleeve by turning the locking knob
until the sleeve is in the locked position. With the rod
securely attached, insert the rod through the extended
tabs and into the pedicle screws.
Optional Instrument: The variable angle Rod Introducer
is available. The rod is loaded with the same procedure
as the standard rod introducer. The angle of the rod
can be adjusted by turning the top knob until the
desired angle is achieved.
Insertion of Set Screws:
Once all the rods have been seated in the pedicle
screws, use Set Screw Inserter or Double Ended Set
Screw Inserter and place set screws onto the tips of the
inserter and insert through the extended tabs and into
the head of the pedicle screws. Do not final tighten until
all adjustments are performed. Final tighten should only
be completed with the torque wrench driver below.
