importance of my values in my practice and the production of a resource as an outcome
of my endeavours.
3.4 My Chosen Approach to Action Research
The Entrepreneurial Educational Approach (EEA) to Action Research (See Fig 3.2, 3.3)
developed by Crotty (2014) identifies four stages in the process; Explore, Understand,
Create and Transform.
Seeking to explore the problem and the context, and to understand the factors that affect
addressing the problem, Crotty’s approach establishes a holistic and applied approach to
research that follows the creative process and emphasises the place of the researcher
and their values in the work, seeks to effect personal and collective transformation, and
acknowledges the requirement for research and work to be of societal relevance.
Key characteristics of the EEA are its inclusion of the creation of a multimedia artefact,
its emphasis of the values of passion, creativity and excellence as well as the
educational values of the practitioner, and the cooperative process through which
knowledge is created (Crotty, 2014, p 97).
