(e) PREPARE A SIMPLE FIRST AID KIT:
You should always have a first aid kit in your Six
box, and should be taken with you when the Six leaves the
Pack Den on an activity.
Some of the items in your kit should be antiseptic
solution, antihistamine ointment, cotton wool (in foil), sterile
dressings, bandages, plasters, safety pins, triangular bandage
and a pair of tweezers and scissors. Each item should be in a
small plastic bag and kept in a plastic or tin box with the name
of the Six on it.
(f) KNOW THE IMPORTANCE OF SUMMONING ADULT HELP
WHEN AN ACCIDENT OCCURS AND OF REPORTING ANY INJURY OR
ACCIDENT TO PARENTS, TEACHERS OR LEADERS.
Always seek out adult help as most people take more notice of adults than
boys or Cub Scouts. The more people you have to help the better to care for the
casualty. The Police, Ambulance or Fire Service need to be called and traffic to be
directed. Any illness or injury should be reported to an adult so that treatment can
be given as soon as possible.
Why not try for the First Aid or Rescuer Proficiency Badge, if you haven't
already got them.
2. PHYSICAL FITNESS
Show how fit you are by completing ONE of the following:
(a) SWIM 25m (90ft) OF ANY STROKE, AND DO A “DUCK DIVE” OR A DIVE
FROM THE SIDE OF THE POOL.
A “Duck drive” in the water is where you bend at
the waist and put your head and body under the water,
straighten your legs so they are in line with your body
and head, and slide down in the water.
When diving from the side of a pool, stand with
your toes on the edge, put your arms together straight
above your head, keep your legs and feet together,
bend your knees a little and dive into the water.
