MEI HUA [AKA: MEI HWA]
Xiaoshan, Hangchow [Hangzhou]
circa 1900-1940
Mei Hua was a retail silversmith
operating in an area which,
historically, has centuries of
silver-making history.
Once thought to only have dealt
in small items of silver, recently a
tea kettle came to light in London
that obviously demonstrates Mei
Hua was also creating items with
the Chinese market in mind.
The etui [above] and the cruets
[right] both obviously are
bamboo inspired. The cruets,
however, are quite unique; I
certainly have never seen
anything similar from a Chinese
silversmith.
