YANG QING HE
Shanghai
circa 1830-1930
Yang Qing He is considered to have been the most famous of Shanghai silversmiths from the
‘old school’ and is said to have ranked the first among the so-called “Nine Factories” in
Shanghai. This was both a manufacturing and retail silversmith, as all the “9 Factory”
silversmiths were.
The range of items that came from this workshop was generally more diverse than any of the
the other 9 Factory makers. Over the latter part of the 19th century, further branches were
opened in Shanghai, each adding a suffix name such as Fa Ji,[see left] and Fu Chi for example.
