“Re-Beginning Again”
Cold Morning Start. I had a camp stove so I skipped a fire and went immediately to addressing
the cargo issues. A few things had gotten wet, nothing was hurt by water exposure, and most
would dry if and when the sun came out. I set things out to air/sun dry just in case.
After two days of incredible blue skies and warm temperatures, I was little cold with the over-
cast. Normally with overcast in Utah the nights are warmer. This felt cooler and the morning
some “wet” dampness.
Minnesota was going to introduce me rather dramatically to dew point and winter humidity.
Two things I really was not familiar with living out west.
Meanwhile I took the time to get my journals set up, snap some pics, and arrange my mind into
some kind of writing mode.
People who travel solo or paddle in modern times often have ear buds and headsets, tech gear,
or some device to occupy the mind, and while I did not have those, I was not a purist. I just
liked nature sounds and reacting to the environment.
Sometimes for me this was closer to nature. Sometimes to God. Regardless it was time alone
and without most modern technology. (Maybe if it was a Walkman with cassettes….)
