Still early since I decided to stay the day, I chose
to explore. Discover what was here.
Water was reported to be here and while I had
plenty so far, I wanted to see what the map said
was water. It was a tall pump style I really didn’t
get any water out of and later of several times I
was told there was water, only one site actually
did that I could personally verify.
That also was part of my eventual transition from
using the maps to using the locals. Maps were
proving in error.
So far my map books were OK though scale was
bad, it had helped so far. Fortunately for me as I
was hiking around the sun came out and I could
tell I could get some clothes dry and maybe some
gear. I really didn’t want to build a fire to dry
clothes, but if I had to I would.
Many of the clothes I left out over night seemed
damp but since I had dumped one kayak in
the river at this early stage I was not to
worried about wet clothes.
This was so different than what the pictures
I had seen were of the camp site. Green was
peeping through the stark dry brown dead
grasses. But what was wide open views of
distances I knew just by seeing the brown,
there was no way unless you came earlier
enough to see what I saw.
It would be covered in greenery and lush
growth. Already some minor signs were
showing that. Greenery was popping up.
