Our Western, Modern Mindset
Our western, modern society has a way of thinking that is not
as healthy as people have had in other parts of the world for
centuries. I want to briefly look at some of these modern ways of
entrenched, automatic thinking that we too often embrace
without even thinking about it.
RATIONAL MINDED. We are rational minded. We are often
head driven more than heart driven. Earlier people were more
relational minded and heart driven.
DEDUCTIVE MINDED. We are analytical, and conclude most
things based on our life experience. Former minds were more
inductive and collective in thought, not so individualistic, self
focused and narcissistic.
MATERIAL MINDED. We hear how materialistic we are.
Former folks were more intuitive and mystical.
REACTIVE MINDED. We are more combative in our thinking.
A common legal phrase is, “Sue the bums.” Former people were
more forgiving, embracing and responsive. We would much
rather live life fighting than having to concede to others. We
would rather fight and create conflict than make small changes
in our lifestyle that would make life better for everyone.
