(3) This signifies that something was going to happen to Jesus’s followers in the future.

(a) The verb ‘shall receive’ is in the future tense, indicating future time.

(b) The verb ‘shall receive’ is in the middle voice, an indicator that this future action
will be experienced by Jesus’ followers.

(c) Jesus had already told them in verses 4 and 5 of chapter 1 to wait for the
promise of the Father whereby they would be baptized by the Holy Ghost.

(d) In verse 5 of chapter 1 Jesus indicates that this action will take place just a few
days into the future.

(4) This signifies that Jesus’ followers are going to acquire ability to perform an activity.

(a) The verb ‘shall receive’ carries the meaning of receiving an object or benefit in
the sense of acquisition.

(b) The object or benefit acquired is described by the noun ‘power’ which carries
the meaning of ability to perform an activity.

(1) This signifies that the followers of Jesus must wait.

(a) The word ‘after’ indicates that something must occur prior to the acquisition.

(b) Jesus already told His followers to wait in verses 4-5 of chapter 1.

(2) This signifies that the followers of Jesus do not presently possess this ability.

(a) They will possess it after the Holy Ghost comes upon them, not before.

(b) Jesus spoke of them being baptized by the Holy Ghost in verse 5 of chapter 1.

(c) In Acts 2 Luke describes a specific event whereby the coming of the Holy Ghost
resulted in the followers of Jesus possessing abilities they formerly did not
possess.

(3) This signifies that the acquisition of this ability will be by supernatural means.

(a) Jesus indicates in verse 5 of chapter 1 that they will be baptized by the Holy
Ghost.
