25. Estimation of Wax in Oil

SCOPE
To estimate the Wax in oil / Fat.

APPARATUS
FAnalytical Balance, 1 mg / 0.1 mg accuracy

FCentrifuge tube (Picture - 2)

FHot Air Oven pre calibrated (Picture - 3)

FCentrifuge (Picture - 4)
FNi - Spatula (Picture - 5) CHEMICALS

Chilled Acetone :

Cool the Acetone in the refrigerator.

PROCEDURE
FTake 10 gm of oil in a centrifuge tube and centrifuge
the oil for 30 minutes at 2000rpm. (Picture - 6)

FAdd equal quantity of Chilled acetone to centrifuge
tube. Shake well for 5 minutes, again centrifuge for

15 minutes at 2000 rpm. (Picture - 7)

FTake the tube out, discard the top layer only. Add
10 ml of chilled acetone and repeat the above
steps for 4 times. (Picture - 8)

FAfter 4th time of removal of top layer, keep the
centrifuge tube in oven for 20 minutes, cool and
weigh. (Picture - 9)
