6. Determination of Urea (DMAB Solution)

SCOPE
To identification the Urea in feed stuffs.

APPARATUS
FTest tube (Picture - 1)

FWhat man or No.1 filter paper (Picture - 2)

REAGENTS

FDMAB (Dimethylamine Amino Benzaldehyde)
FMethanol

FHydrochloric Acid

PREPARATION
FDMAB Solution: 2g of DMAB in a solution of 90ml
Methanol + 10ml of concentrated hydrochloric
acid.

PROCEDURE
FOne spatula of ground sample in a test tube + 3 ml Note : After filtration, if the color of the supernatant is
of dis. H O and mix. Filter into another test tube YELLOW like urea standard, need to add a pinch of

using Whatmann No.1 filter paper. (Picture - 3) CHARCOAL in that sample solution, Shake well & then
filter.
FAdd a 5 or 6 drops of DMAB solution in to the
filtered solution. Deepening of yellow color
indicates presence of Urea. (Picture - 4)
