P. 109
TOTAL 2,850 150 3,000
Proportionate Share 95% 5%
$950,000 50,000
(150 students /3000 total students = 0.05 x 100 = 5) (5 x $1,000,000 = $5,000,000/100 = $50,000)
Hence, the private/non-public school equitable share to be taken off the top is $50,000, leaving $950,000
for the school district.
To calculate the equitable share for Title II and Title IV, use the worksheets that are provided in MCAPS
or:
a. Add the total enrollment for all public school and private/non-public school students.
b. Subtract any administrative costs from the grant award to get the equitable share amount.
c. Divide the equitable share amount by the total enrollment of public and private/non-public
school students to determine the per pupil amount.
d. Multiply the number of students at each private/non-public school by the per pupil amount to
determine the equitable share for each participating private school.
e. Subtract the equitable share amount for all private/non-public school students from the total
grant allocation (less administrative costs) to compute the public school amount.
Example of Determining the Amount of Title II/IV Funds for Equitable Services – Grant
Allocation - $300,000 with administrative cost of $6,000.00 (Maximum Indirect Cost Cannot
exceed 2% of Either Grant.
Public School Number of Number of Total Number of Per Pupil Number of Private
Attendance Public Private School Enrolled Amount School Students x
Area School Students Students Per Pupil Amount
Students
School A 500 52 552 $98.00 $5,096
School B 875 43 918 $98.00 $4,214
School C 1050 35 1085 $98.00 $3,430
School D 425 20 445 $98.00 $1,960
TOTAL 2,850 150 3,000 $98.00 $14,700
Per pupil amount =$ 300,000 - $6,000 = $294,000/3000 students = $98
Private/non-public amount = 150 x $98.00 = $14,700
Public amount = $294,000 – $14,700 = $279,300
Hence, the private/non-public school equitable share to be taken off the top is $14,700 leaving $285,300
for the school district ($6,000 for administrative costs and $279,300 for district and school programs).
Providing Equitable Services to Eligible Students - N3
Hinds County School District will ensure equitable services for eligible students attending private/non-
public schools using the following criteria. Services are equitable if:
1. The FPD assesses and addresses the specific needs and educational progress of eligible private school
children on a basis comparable to public school children as determined in the meaningful consultation
with each participating private school official.
2. The FPD determines on an annual basis that the total amount of funds expended, in the aggregate, by
the district for services to eligible private school children is equal to the amount of funds generated by
private school students.
