to verifying personal
references, you will have
another set of questions you
need to answer:

• Can the reference verify the customer’s residence and employment?
• Does the reference see or have contact with the customer regularly?
• Would the reference be able and willing to help you locate the customer if he or she moved?.

When verifying friends, neighbors, or coworkers who have been used as personal references, it’s
important to find out how long they have known the customer. If the reference has only known the
customer for a short period of time, they may be of questionable use for locating the customer should
they move.
