It picks most of its sound from the front while less sound is picked
from behind and very minimal is picked from the sides. This gives cardioid
microphone advantage of being used in many situations even in the
event where multiple microphones are needed like live concerts.
Cue
Cue has two different meanings:
[1] Signal to begin, end, or otherwise influence on-camera activity
while recording.
[2] Pre-setting of specific starting points of audio or video material
so it’s available for immediate and precise playback when required.
Special effects(FX)
Tricks and illusions using electronics or on camera and used in film
and video to define, distort, or defy reality is termed special effect.
Jingle
Certain catchy tunes and lyrics sounde very appealing and makes
an impression on a person. This short tune is termed as jingle. They are
found in many radio and TV commercials.
Examples of famous jingles include the ones made by Intel, Airtel,
Brittania etc.
Off Mike
When one is not near the mike and the sound is not projected directly
towards the mike, then it is termed off-mike (adj).
