dialogue (or monologue) stand out more strongly in the audience’s
memory and thus become the best “taste” of the larger message or
conversation.
Voice over
The voice of an unseen narrator or of an onscreen character not
seen speaking, in a movie or a television broadcast is termed as
voiceover.
Windshields
These are accessories placed on the
top of every microphone. A good
windshield helps to prevent loud
popping sounds being created when the
ait from ‘p’ and ‘f’ sounds in speech or
song reach the microphone’s
diaphragm. If the mike is situated
outside, even a small breeze can cause
distortion and intermittent popping sounds as the wind strikes the
diaphragm. This can be reduced using a decent windshield.
Bi-directional
A microphone that picks up sound from front and
back while denying sound from the sides is termed as
bi-directional. They are also known as Figure 8 mikes
since the pick sound waves from 8 different directions.
They are used in a variety of applications like recording
vocals for choirs, background singers, acoustic
instruments and face-to-face interviews in studio settings.
