Meanwhile, No. 73961 spent half of
the month under repair at Eastleighas
did No. 73963 at Brush, Loughborough
whereitarrived on July16.

to collect the return service, which was Terminal to the north of the station
then heavily delayedwhile police tried
to apprehend atrespasser near Leyland.
On July20, No. 86259 took the
1Z50/08.16King’s Cross-Carlisle as far
as Doncaster,where PacificNo. 60163
Tornado waswaiting to take the
train forward. Afterwards,No. 86259
ranlight to Newcastle and hauled
the lastleg of the tour (1Z54/19.22
Newcastle-King’s Cross) back to
London,reached nineminutesearly.
CLASS 88
THE ActonGrangeJunction blockade
resulted in Class 88 locomotives being
regularlyseenbetween Golborne
container trainsbetween Daventry and
Mossend were diverted that way for
twoweeksstarting on July20. Pioneer
No. 88001was oftenrecorded with
the 4S44/12.13Daventry-Mossend
during thefirstweek of diversions,
with No.88004 takingoveronJuly27.

The 6D43/07.31Crewe CLS-Valley
pairsofClass88s at the helm on half a

73107 were the locos, the 1Z73 working pictured passing Eastleigh. Mike Lalley

CLASS90
DURINGthe last 11 days of July when
the railway south of WarringtonBank
wasservedbythe 1M44/16.18
from Shieldmuir extended to
WillesdenPRDC.
1M44 wasformed of three Class
325 electric units hauled by aClass 90
locomotive which, once the train had
been dealt with at Warrington RMTand
the locomotivehad run round the sets,
took the route north again to Winwick
Junction thence via Earlestown and
Eccles to Wilmslowand Crewe.
The northbound 1S96/16.05
WillesdenPRDC-Shieldmuir didnot call
at Warringtonand,havingtraversed
Chat Moss, took the curve from
Parkside East Junction to Golborne
Junction to reachthe West Coast
Main Line. Untilthe end of July, the two
services were alternatelypoweredby
Nos. 90018 and 90019.
The Caledonian Sleepers were
also affected by the ActonGrange
work,with the 1M16/20.45 Inverness-
Euston Mk.3 sleepers travelling south
viaChorleytoManchester and then
south by way of Stockport, Stoke-
on-Trent and Colwich Junction. Nos.
90042/3/7/9 were allnoted on this
train at Stokebetween July20and the
end of the month. E
