Workstation assessment for new starters
The following process outlines how to conduct a workstation assessment for a new starter.
Step Activity Who
1 • Checks and makes sure the new starter’s workstation is set up Manager
in accordance with the specifications outlined in the
Workstations and Chairs Guideline.
• Provides the following extracts from Officewise 2006 to the
new starter as part of their induction package:
o Appendix A – Setting up your workstation
o Appendix B – Exercises for Office Workers.
Note: This should be completed in the first week of employment.
2 • Reviews the following sections of the Officewise 2006 Employee
publication:
o Appendix A – Setting up your workstation
o Appendix B – Exercises for Office Workers.
• Advises manager about any pre-existing conditions or
concerns about the environment and/or workstation.
Note:
If there are ongoing concerns following the self-assessment or
advice is needed about non-standard equipment options the
following should occur:
• where there is no current discomfort ,injury or illness the
Safety Advisor or Wellbeing Team Member should be
contacted
Refer: Workstation assessment as a wellbeing intervention.
• if there is an issue with discomfort, injury or illness the Injury
Management Advisor should be contacted.
Refer: Workstation assessment for staff following an injury or
illness.

The following process outlines how to conduct a workstation self-assessment relating to a wellbeing
intervention.
