Chapter 3 General Repairs
Spot Free (RO)
Membrane Cleaning
Clean the membrane with Muriatic Acid (swimming pool acid). Follow the steps below:
1) Turn the system off.
2) Remove the float plug.
3) Remove the product line from the top of the storage tank and put it where the water can go down
the drain.
4) Turn the system back on, the system will be in flush mode for approximately the first two minutes.
5) Wait for the system to come out of flush mode. Then, the system will shut down.
6) Remove the filter housing.
7) Dump out the water without removing the filter.
Note: Make sure the O-ring stays seated.
8) For systems with a 21” membrane, pour a pint (16 oz.) of Muriatic acid into the housing and
replace it on the system. For all other systems a quart (32-oz.) of Muriatic acid.
Note: On multiple membrane systems it may be necessary to repeat the process.
Note: Never use more than a quart per cleaning cycle.
9) Close the reject needle valve(s). See the image below.
10) Open the re-circulation gate valve(s) fully. See the image below.
