Chapter 3 Chapter 2 LIFESTYLE
Obese People Have More Stress
Mary Obese says: Stress has NOTHING to do with my weight. My 3 Meals-A-Day and the odd snack is the
only stress reliever I need. When I’m ready, I’ll lose weight with a little exercise. I can’t do that right now
because I’m so tired and depressed. Furthermore, pain & depression has nothing to do with dieting or
exercise, all I need is a pill. And walking makes me tired, and anyway, I don’t have the time.
Dr. Sara Gottfried published: these four specific hormones work against weight loss. (All Caused By Stress).
1. Not Enough Adiponectin: Adiponectin tells your body to burn fat for fuel, but the more fat on your body,
the lower your adiponectin levels. (Get rid of the fat first, then stress, and your adiponectin returns to normal.)
2. Insulin Imbalance: Overweight people often experience some level of insulin imbalance, a major underlying
cause of excess weight & obesity. (Get rid of the fat first, then stress, and your insulin returns to normal.)
3. Too Much Ghrelin: Ghrelin is the hunger hormone. The more you have in your system, the hungrier you are
and the more fat your body stores. (Get rid of the fat first, then stress, and your ghrelin returns to normal.)
4. Cortisol Overload: Too much increases your cravings for sweets, stores body fat, breaks down muscle
tissue, and can cause depression. (Get rid of the fat first, then stress, and your cortisol returns to normal.)
