6. Testing the backlash between the intermediate
steering shaft spline and the spline socket backlash
a. Install the slip yoke onto the intermediate steering
shaft, testing the backlash between the intermediate
steering shaft spline and the spline socket.
Reference value: ≤ 0.04mm
• Use V-blocks to support the intermediate steering shaft,
fix the spline socket end of the intermediate steering shaft.
• Put the probe of the dial gauge onto the surface at the
middle of the intermediate steering shaft. Perform zero
point calibration of the gauge pointer.
• Rotate the slip yoke of the intermediate steering shaft to
check the backlash of the spline.
b. Pull and push the slip yoke by hand, and there shall be
no sign of jamming. If there is, replace the intermediate
steering shaft.
7. Installing the intermediate steering shaft
a. Install the slip yoke cover of the intermediate steering
shaft as indicated by the marks made during disassembly.
Caution
Smear lubricant inside the drive shaft's slide fork.
b. Fix both ends of the drive shaft's slide fork cover with
