Intermediate Steering Shaft IN

Check and repair DI
1. Dismount the assembly of steering wheel (refer to “Chapter Steering System -
Steering Mechanism - Steering Wheel, Replacement”)

2. Dismount the assembl of combination switch (refer to “Chapter (ST) Steering System - Steering
Mechanism - Combination Switch, Replacement”)
3. Remove the steering column assembly (refer to “Chapter (ST) Steering System - Steering Mechanism - TR
Steering Column, Replacement”)
4. Removing the intermediate steering shaft AX

a. Remove the cover of the intermediate steering shaft.
b. Remove the fixing bolts for the universal joint of the FR
intermediate steering shaft. Remove the intermediate
steering shaft assembly. ST

c. Cut off the ties at both sides of slip yoke covers of the
intermediate steering shaft. BW

d. Make assembly marks at both sides of slip yoke covers
of the intermediate steering shaft. Pull away the
intermediate steering shaft slip yoke and Remove the
lower cover.

Caution
Since plenty of lubricant may exist inside the
intermediate steering shaft, the disassembled parts
must be kept in a clean place to prevent ingression of
foreign matters.

5. Checking intermediate steering shaft
a. Sway the universal joint yoke of the intermediate
steering shaft back and forth, and check if the universal
joint connection is smooth and if the clearance is not too
large. If related requirements cannot be satisfied, please
replace the universal joint yoke.

Swing angle of the universal joint: ≥ 30°
