Plastic parts
Overview
In order to meet the energy-saving and emission reduction requirements, a large number of plastic parts have
been used in vehicles to reduce body weight. The plastic parts used on the body include bumper, lamp cover,
fender, intake grille, dashboard, trim panel, fuel tube, door trim and etc. Many new reinforced plastic parts
have achieved the same strength and hardness as steel parts; some plastic parts are more dimensionally stable
and have better corrosion resistance than steel parts.
The use expansion of plastic parts has put forward the new requirements for the collision repair, so the new
repair methods for plastic parts should be developed. The repair of plastic parts is more economical and faster
than their replacement, and scratches, cracks, grooves, tears, punctures and other damages can be
repaired without disassembly; some deformed plastic parts can be repaired to restore the original shapes, to
save the time to wait for the new parts, allow the vehicle to be faster repaired, and obtain a higher repair
efficiency and economic benefits.
Notes about repair of plastic parts
1. Apply the protective cream onto exposed skin to prevent irritation;
2. Wear the rubber gloves;
3. Wear protective goggles when using the compressed air and performing the grinding process;
4. Immediately remove any mixture in contact with the skin; or the mixture will be solidified quickly;
5. Wear a dust mask and safety goggles during gringidng or sanding process;
6. Wash the skin with cold water to reduce the slight irritation on the skin from the resin dust;
7. Do not smear the repair materials on clothes;
8. Use the maintenance materials in a well-ventilated environment; the particulate matters from
maintenance materials are toxic;
9. After use, close all maintenance material containers. Any dust or moisture may pollute the
maintenance materials and reduce the maintenance effect.
