d. Dumping identification.
DI
• Take a small amount of oil from the oil sump tank and
pour it into a container, and then slowly pour it out from the
container to observe the luster and viscosity of the oil. If the EG
oil can be slender and uniform, there is no impurity in the
oil, and the oil can be used for some time, otherwise, it shall
TR
be replaced.
AX
• If there is a noticeable delamination of oil in the container
and water is present in the lower layer of the container, it FR
indicates that the oil is mixed with water and it is necessary
to find the cause of moisture entering the oil. ST
A: Water
B: Oil BR
BW
e. Identification of oil droplets.
EL
• Drop a drop of oil on a piece of white paper. If there is a
large dark spot in the center of the oil droplet, it is dark
brown and uniform and it is without particle, but with
yellow soakage, the oil is spoilt and shall be replaced; if the
dark spot in the center of the oil droplet is small and with a
light color, and the yellow soakage mark is large, the oil can
be used.
3. Check the oil pressure
a. Disassemble the oil pressure sensor and install the oil
pressure gauge.
b. Start the engine to warm up the engine and observe the
oil pressure gauge to ensure the normal oil pressure.
Caution
• Damages to the gasket of oil sump tank and internal oil
pipe cracks can cause loss of oil pump. In starting, the
oil pressure of the engine may be lower or there may be
no oil pressure, and then the oil pressure is normal.
• Continued declines of oil pressure over the long term
may indicate bearing wear or excessive oil pump wear.
