AX-40 Axles, Transmission Shafts - Rear Axle

Precautions
1. Precautions for maintenance of final reducer gear oil

a. Be sure to use the specified gear oil, and do not mix.
Gear oil: Class GL-585W/90 gear oil
b. Be sure to replace with new final reducer gear oil regularly. (See Chapter AX Axles, Transmission Shafts -
Rear Axle / Rear Axle - Rear Axle - Gear Oil, Replacement)

c. Be sure to check regularly (at least once for four times of second level maintenance).
Check gear oil quality, for discoloration, thinning and other deterioration phenomenon. If the above defects
exist, be sure to replace with new gear oil.(See Chapter AX Axles, Transmission Shafts - Rear Axle / Rear
Axle - Rear Axle - Gear Oil, Replacement)
2. Precautions for maintenance of final reducer assembly

a. Be sure to check the breather plug regularly to clean the soil and dust.
Caution
• When performing primary service, remove and clean the breather plug to ensure that the airway is clear.
• Blockage of the breather plug increases the pressure in the final reducer and may lead to oil leakage
from the final reducer.

• Clean the breather plug while checking the gear oil level.

b. Regularly check the filler plug and drain plug and, if there is phenomenon of oil leakage, tighten the plug
immediately, or replace the end seal.
3. Precautions for repair of final reducer assembly
a. Make sure to replace the mating parts.

b. All rubber parts (such as O-ring, oil seal, washer, etc.) cannot be reused after being removed.
c. By visual inspection or red lead powder or other specified methods, carefully check the appearance of all
parts for the following defects:

Uneven wear Partial wear Scratch Crack

Deformity Bending Loosen Rusting
Discoloration or jam Failure or fatigue (spring) Abnormal noise (bearing) Ablation (brake shoe)

d. Be sure to confirm that all components are clean and free of oil stain and iron dust before the final drive is
reassembled. Without special instruction, lubricate it with gear oil before operation
Gear oil: ClassGL-580W/90 gear oil
4. Precautions for vehicle use

a. Do not overload, the vehicle loading mass shall not exceed the maximum loading capacity.
b. Fill in the grease nipple with lithium grease every 2000km, clean the breather plug, check the fastening condition
of the axle shaft bolts, and check the gear oil level in the axle housing (open the oil level bolt to check).

c. Check the brake clearance every 5000km.
d. Regularly check the quality of gear oil in the axle housing. If any discoloration, thinning and other
deterioration phenomenon, replace with new oil in time.
e. The mileage for the first oil change is 2000km, the gear oil need to be changed again every 24000km of driving.
