               protest) for the sake of the Torah and mitzvot which they insulted                  ןֵכֶּשׁ ,"ץרֶָאָה תֶא וּפיִנֲחַת אלְֹו"ִדּ :)ג"ל ה"ל רָבּדְִמַּבּ( ואָל אוּהְו
               and mocked or for the sake of the righteous Tzadik who was the
               victim of their vile remarks.  This is one of the reasons why man                   ירֲֵעַשׁ רֶפֵסְבּ ןֵיַּע .םיִפֵנֲחַל הרָָהְזַא הֶז קוּסָפְדּ ,ירְֵפִסְבּ וּרְמָא
               is obligated to leave that group of wicked people, since he will be                 ,הֶזָבּ הֵבּרְַה ךְירֱִאֶהֶשׁ ,)ר-זפק 'ג רַעַשׁ( הָנוֹי וּנֵבּרְַל הָבוּשְׁתּ
               punished for listening to the evil things they said, and eventually
               he will become weary of rebuffing their words.                                      ,הָפֻּנֲח לַלְכִבּ םֵה םָלֻּכְו ,הֶזְבּ םיקִָלֲח הָמַּכּ שֵׁי יִכּ רֵאֵבוּ

               [ 9 ]  One who honors a wicked person for the sake of keeping                         :יִתאָבּ רֵצּקְַל יִכֹנָא ןֵכָא ,םיִבוּתְכַּה ןִמ תוֹיָארְ איִבֵהְו
               the  peace  even  though  this  person  is  not  saying  good  things
               about this evil person, and even though he is not honoring him
               in a way that people would mistakenly think that he holds the                                                      .הָלְעַמְל וּנְמַדּקְִהֶשׁ הֶז .א
               Rasha in high esteem because he greets him in the same manner
               in which he would greet a wealthy person because of his wealth
               or because of a hope that the wealthy person will do him some
               favor, this greeting of a Rasha is still a sin since it is a gesture                אלֶֹּשׁ וֹא ויָנָפְבּ םִא ,םָדָא יֵנְבּ יֵנְפִל עָשׁרָ לֵלַּהְי רֶשֲׁא .ב
               of honor.  And even if it is permissible to greet a wealthy person
               with honor (for some personal motive) it is not permitted to do                     רַמאֹי לָבֲא ,וֹסָמֲח לַע וּנּקֶיִדְּצַי אלֶֹּשׁ יִפּ לַע ףַא ,ויָנָפְבּ
               so to a Rasha.  The only exception to this rule would be if this                    יֵבְזֹע" :)'ד ח"כ יֵלְשִׁמ( רַמֱאֶנ הֶז לַעְו ,אוּה בוֹט שׁיִא יִכּ ויָלָע
               person is afraid the Rasha will harm him in some way and (only)
               on that basis is it permissible to greet (honor) him as one would                   תֶא ַחֵבַּשְׁל אלֶֹּשׁ ,רָהְזִנ הֶיְהִי וּלִּפֲאַו ."עָשׁרָ וּלְלַהְי הרָוֹת
               greet (honor) influential people by standing in his presence and                    יֵנְפִבּ ויָלָע ץיִלָיְו ,בוֹטַּה ןִמ וֹבּ אָצְמִנֶּשׁ הֶמַּבּ יִתָלוּז ,עָשׁרָָה
               showing respect.  But one may not extol him or speak well of him
               in the presence of other people.  Regarding this, Chazal have said                  תֶאְו ,בוֹטַּה תֶא וֹריִכְּזַהְבּ יִכּ .הָלוֹח הָערָ וֹז םַגּ ,םָדָא יֵנְבּ
               (Gemara Sotah 41b) that in this world one is allowed to flatter                     לֶצֵא בֵשָׁחֵי קיִדַּצ ,הֶסַּכְי ויָעָשְׁפּ לָכּ לַעְו ,ריִכְּזַי אלֹ ערַָה
               Resha’im.
                                                                                                   וּנְמַדּקְִה רָבְכוּ .רַבָגְו וֹדָי םירִָיְו ,רקְָי וֹל וּנְתִּיְו ,םיִעְמוֹשַּׁה
               Even to praise an upstanding (kosher) Jew more than is warranted
               by his deeds, merely for the sake of flattery is obviously forbidden.               ןוֹכָנ אלֹ ןֵכּ לַע ,םיִעָשׁרְָה דוֹבְכִבּ אָצְמִנַּה לוֹשְׁכִמַּה לדֶֹּג
               It is permitted to flatter this type of person only if something                        .םָלְסִכְו םָעְשׁרִ ריִכְּזַי םִא יִתְּלִבּ ,םָתקָדְִצ ריִכְּזַהְל
               beneficial will evolve from those remarks.  Regarding this, our
               sages have written in our holy writings that it is permissible for
               a husband to flatter his wife for the sake of marital peace or to
               flatter one’s rabbi so that he will teach him Torah or flatter his                  וֹחְבַּשְׁל אלֶֹּשׁ רָהְזִנֶּשׁ ףַא ,ויָנָפְבּ עָשׁרָָה תֶא ַחֵבַּשְׁמַה .ג
               friend so that he will learn to listen to what he is saying, and                    לוֹדָגּ - ףֵנָחֶה הֶז םַגּ ,שׁקֵוֹמְל םֶהָל הֶיְהִי ןֶפּ ,םָדָא יֵנְבּ יֵנְפִבּ
               similarly for a rebbe to his student.
                                                                                                   בוּשָׁי אלְֹו ,"ויָניֵעְבּ ויָלֵא קיִלֱחֶה יִכּ" :)'ג ו"ל םיִלִּהְתּ( .וֹנוֲֹע
               The Gemara Sotah (41b) teaches the following:  “Rebbe Elazar
               said  –  Anyone  who  possesses  the  character  trait  of  flattery                 .ויָניֵעְבּ אוּה קיִדַּצ יִכּ ,וֹנוֲֹעַל גַאדְִי אלְֹו ,הָערָָה וֹכּרְַדִּמ
