Peristomal Cleaning Con’t:

 Use presoaked four 4x4 sponges, squeezed, to gently
cleanse skin around stoma, using one stroke method:
• from 12 o’clock to 3 o’clock
• from 12 o’clock to 9 o’clock
• from 3 o’clock to 6 o’clock
• from 9 o’clock to 6 o’clock

• Use additional 4x4s and cotton tipped applicators if
necessary to remove all secretions around stoma and
outer cannula

 Pat dry any dampness around stoma with 4x4

 Apply split-gauze dressing and hold it in place on
its distal margins

 Slide under the tracheostomy plate/flanges and
around the tube
