EQUIPMENT

 Gloves, several pairs
 Goggles or eyeshield
 Sterile normal saline
 Hydrogen peroxide
Tracheostomy tray or items below:
 2 clean bowls
 5 – 6 4x4 gauze sponges
 Cotton tipped applicators
 Small nylon bottle brush or pipe cleaners
 Spilt-gauze trach dressing (split by manufacturer)
 Twill tape (or substitute trach securement device)
 Foam trach-securement device, optional
 Damp wash cloth and towel
 Impervious trash bag

Procedure Preparation

 Place impervious trash bag near work site
 Create a clean field for equipment by opening
tracheostomy tray
 Pour hydrogen peroxide in one container
 Pour saline into second container. Add at least four
4x4 sponges
 Open packages for applicators and tracheostomy
dressing
