     EXECUTIVE SUMMARY                       The main objective of KTP  RDU 141004  project  is to enhance  the
                                             productivity output of liquid fertilizer factory. One of the factors to be
                                             improved is to increase the efficiency of mixing system. At the early
                                             stage  of  the  project,  it was found  that  the  existing  mixing system
                                             takes around 6 hours to produce liquid fertilizer from raw materials
                                             preparation  up to  finishing  product.  This existing  system was not   66
                                             properly designed, fabricated and maintained.  To overcome the
                                             problem and improve the  productivity, a new  mixing system was
                                             proposed.

                                             The main criteria for the newly proposed system are efficient mixing
                                             process and easy maintenance. To ensure efficient mixing process,
                                             the ingredients should be uniformly mixed by  the impeller and
                                             uniformly distributed in the mixer tank. To achieve this condition, the
                                             mixing system should be able to create turbulence and vortex type
                                             of fluid movement in the tank. This is being done by proper design of
                                             impeller geometry and speed to control of the fluid velocity.

                                             Overall, the project was successfully  completed and has created
                                             good relationship between industry and university as well as capa-
                                             ble to leverage the university image for future projects.
