Public Higher Learning Institute The university also gained several advantages from the project. Solving industrial
problems definitely strengthen the industry’s confidence on university’s capability
and capacity. As an outcome from this project, a paint company, Bina Integrated
Sdn Bhd (Bina Paint) has shown interest for future collaboration with the university.
A student successfully graduated in Master of Science mechanical engineering
under this project grant. The thesis title is “Material Modelling Reliability in Sheet
Metal Forming”. The research focuses on investigating the capability of hardening
modelling to predict sheet metal forming.
Besides, this project has also attracts an engineer from industry to register as part
time master student to study productivity improvement using statistical tool.
A final year undergraduate student has been exposed to this project through an
assignment to simulate the mixing process using fluid structure interface method of
finite element. The following figures show the finite element simulation results.
This simulation method used in this project is a new development in the area of
finite element for studying engineering structure response when subjected to fluid
dynamic loading. The technique is applicable in the design of oil or water storage
system, piping system, pumps and equipment related to the mechanic of fluid
transportation.
Human Capital Development The project contributes to the human resource development by providing
opportunity to the graduate and undergraduate students to get involve in a 68
real industrial project. As an outcome from the project, the master student, Wan
Iryana Wan Md Nor, managed to secure a job at Shin-Etsu(M) Sdn Bhd, Shah
Alam, as design engineer immediately after the project completion. The com-
pany is a silicon wafer producer based in Japan.
Besides, Mohd Naqiuddin who was assigned as site engineer, had registered
and completed his master at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and currently pursu-
ing his PhD at Universiti Malaysia Pahang.
The project in a long run will contribute in making Pekan district to become rice
producer in East Coast of Malaysia. The development will strengthen the local
agriculture activities and create more jobs for local people.
PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED 1. Time constraints to meet and coordinate the project work as well
as monitoring the progress for reporting.
2. Challenge to convince other companies to get involves in the
project as second tier collaborators.
KNOWLEDGE TRANSFERRED
1. Sharing of knowledge and method of making safe and comfort wo-
rking place as well as efficient raw material control.
2. Training to the company on systematic technique to identify and so-
lve production problem from preliminary evaluation of the current
production system and its weaknesses and strengths to proposing
new method to overcome the limitations
3. Training to the company on systematic identification method to ac-
quire raw materials and production cost for future cost down plann-
ing and activities.
