Communicate in the workplace
Text messages at work
Text messages are becoming more common at workplace. Text messages can be
used only if they are acceptable at the workplace. The standard rules that need to
be followed while using text messages are:
• must be professional
• avoid smileys
• avoid abbreviations
• don’t use internet slang
• punctuate the message
• use correct spelling
Memorandums
A memorandum or memo is the method of communication to a large group within
the organisation at once. Memo can be sent as an email or printed out and
distributed.
Organisations may have a specific memo template that need to be followed.
Memos are less formal than a letter. Headings that must be included at the top of a
memo are to, from, date and subject.
