Communication
The name of the air traffic service unit begins with a geographical name
followed by one of the following designations:
- Radio Provides flight information service to a limited extent
(e.g. wind, runway in use, runway condition)
Radio is not an air traffic service unit.
E.g. Herning Radio.
- AFIS Aerodrome Flight Information Service provides flight
information service for aerodrome traffic at uncontrolled
sites where the type of traffic or intensity requires a more
comprehensive flight information service than the radio
site provides.
AFIS uses suffix INFORMATION
E.g. Stauning Information
- Information Flight Information Center, from which flight information
service is provided in a larger area.
E.g. Copenhagen Information.
- Apron Provides flight information service on the apron or parking
area at larger airports. The service may issue certain
instructions, if this is locally determined.
E.g. Kastrup Apron.
Just as the air traffic controller may abbreviate your call sign, you may
abbreviate call signs on the above-mentioned service units. You may simply say
either the place name or the service unit. E.g. Herning Radio may become
Herning or Radio.
Remember that the initial call must be with the full call sign! You may only
abbreviate the station's call sign when a secure connection has been
established, and no misunderstandings can arise.
