Communication
➢ OSKAR YANKEE CHARLIE TANGO ZULU, Herning Radio
Now communication is initiated, and you are introduced to each other, so
further communication can continue with abbreviated call signs. If the stations
have an uninterrupted dialog call signs can be omitted, if no misunderstandings
can occour.
In this example, the phrase “Go ahead” is used, meaning you should provide
your message. “STANDBY” can also be used, meaning you should wait on the
frequency until you are called.
After the initial call, the next step in radio communication is to say a bit more
about WHO you are, WHERE you are, and WHAT you want, for example:
➢ ” Cessna 172, 2 persons on board, parked at hangar,
requesting departure information for a VFR flight to
Stauning
to Stauning”
A response could be, for example:
➢ “OTZ Runway 27 in use wind 280 degrees 15 kt
QNH 1012, no known traffic”
no known traffic”
For safety reasons, important instructions should be "read back." This includes
the runway in use and QNH. Information does not need to be "read back."
We could now, for example, respond to the ground unit:
➢ Taxi to the stop line RWY 27 QNH 1012 OTZ
Now we have read back and acknowledged the message by ending it with our
own call sign (OTZ).
