9.8.2.1 The slider
- The circular arcs on the slider are called speed circles
- The lines in the circles are called drift lines.
The slider has two sides:
- L-side for low speeds
- H-side for higher speeds
At the bottom of the L-side there is a squared part, which is used to find the
crosswind component during takeoff and landing.
9.8.2.2 The wind arm
The wind arm on the CRP1W is provided with an L-side, which is used in
connection with the L-side of the slider, and an H-side, which is used in
connection with the H-side of the slider.
The CRP1 has no wind arm.
9.8.2.3 Grommet /center dot
The hole in the middle of the wind arm (the transparent, movable part in the
circle) is called the grommet or center dot.
The wind triangle consists, as previously mentioned, of three directions/lengths:
TH/TAS, TT/GS and W/V
- The speed circles are used when measuring speed in the wind triangle
(TAS, GS and V).
- We find the drift or WCA using the drift lines.
- The index denotes TT
- The grommet denotes GS.
If we know two of the three components, we can find the last one.
