9.8.3 Using the computer – a brief overview
Below is a quick course in using the computer. Since the computer is an
important part of the theory course, it is important that you become familiar
with it. Do the calculations below, on e-learning, and in the manual that comes
with the computer.
If you need further guidance and do more tasks, you can find many good short
films on YouTube.
In places where there is a difference between the use of CRP1W (the one with
the wind arm) and CRP1 (without the wind arm), the method with CRP1W is
shown first and then with CRP1.
For CRP1, you need a nice, clear marker that can be erased.
9.8.3.1 The wind side
Task 1: Find Ground Speed (GS)
o
- You have measured your route on the map and found that TT is 220
- You have been given a wind of 310 degrees 20 KTS. This means that the
wind comes from 310 degrees and has a strength of 20 KTS.
- TAS is given as 105 KTS.
On the CRP1W computer (the
computer with the wind arm), the
setup can look like below:
- The direction the aircraft is to
fly is set under index: 220 is sat
below
- The wind is set by turning the L-
part of the wind arm at 310 o
- The 20 KTS wind, which comes
from the right side, must cross the curved line on the TAS you are flying
with. Here you can see that the TAS is 108 KTS (the number in the hole).
