                9.9.4 HSI

HSI (horizontal situation indicator) navigation works like VOR navigation. Here
you can see a typical HSI indicator.

Here you can test your abilities / or limitations in HSI

navigation. (may take a while to open)

                9.9.5 DME

Many VOR stations have equipment called Distance Measuring Equipment

(DME). To use this equipment, it is required that the aircraft is equipped with

DME. DME can also be used on military TACAN beacons.

                9.9.5.1 DME receiver

                Here is a typical DME.

The display shows DME distance, GS, Time

to the station ETA (Estimated Time Arrival).

9.9.5.2 DME – range, accuracy and limitations

The accuracy of the DME is within 0.5 NM, range up to 200 NM.

The limitations are that it only measures oblique range and ETA and GS are only
suitable for flying directly to/from the DME.
