Task:

You are flying on ODN VOR radial 130 and are 30 NM from the VOR. Your heading

is 130 degrees and your VOR indicates FROM. The needle in the instrument is

centered. You make a left turn and change course to 310 degrees.

What does your VOR indicator show now?

Solution:

Before the turn, the VOR instrument shows this:

When you change course from 130 to 310 , you will be in
a situation where you are to the left of the set radial.

The display on the instrument will now be as
shown here:

If you had flown according to the setting on the

instrument, you would have turned to the right

to get the needle centered again.

However, you are not flying in accordance with
the setting on the instrument (because you are

flying 310 inbound), so you have to turn the opposite way, i.e. to the left.

9.9.3.5 Range, accuracy and limitations

The range of the VOR can be seen in the VFG. It is not always the same in all
directions.
