hammed by the hundred while telling lies… And this is someone
who prays five times a day, goes to Mecca… If the oath of someone
like that is worthless, so are his vouchers. Basically they want to
throw us out to stay on top of a debt. All of us thought the same.
Of course we did not know what to do. We went to Is-Kur (a kind
of tribunal), there we lodged a complaint. We had been removed
on 31 January. We were given a fairy tale of it being a week, we
were on holiday for a week, he had said come later, that too was a
fairy tale. They gave a paper and with that we went to Is Kur. We
made a complaint, all of us workers. They collected wages, as in-
dividuals three or four of the workers consulted lawyers. They said
the lawyers of the bosses had given vouchers, so the lawyer of two
of the friends said, let us mortgage the factory.
Their lawyer and the other lawyer said, “Let’s go and see
about putting a mortgage on the factory. In the tax office they is-
sued a mortgage on that factory and it is ten million. So there is
ten million in the factory,” they said. Of course, what would re-
main to us, that was what the lawyer said. “Let us give the voucher,
get a mortgage, pray. The factory can be sold for good money,”
they say. If it is not sold for good money, we will not have the
money anyway. So let us get the voucher, pray that the factory is
sold for good money.
Right, we went around to twenty, twenty-five lawyers. All of
them said the same thing. “It will last one and a half years, perhaps
two, I will look after it, I will get the money but I need a little on
top otherwise I won’t be able to get it. The man would look after
everything. There was nothing on top of it, the lawyer came back
from the tax office with a mortgage document in hand and ex-
