plained everything to us.
Yuruyus: How did you get introduced to the DIH?
Serkan Gonul: Well, our boss had divorced his own wife for
money. There was even divorce money for his wife in the building.
After that we were quite certain. We had been deceived. Thirty to
forty people gathered, we went to a lawyer in Cevizlibag. That one
said the same. The following day we decided to go and get infor-
mation and tell the others. Then one of our working friends sug-
gested we go to the CHD lawyers and talk to them. After that we
decided our path. We went to the CHD, they said the same as the
other lawyers we had met. But they said one thing extra. They said
that we had already won. That is, we had already won, there was
nothing more to prove. But look to get the money from them.
Other lawyers were not like that, “Let us go to court, if we win we
get the money, if not we are not interested, we will get our money.
If there is something extra we will take it,” they said.
But the CHD lawyers were not like that. They said, “You have
won, you have nothing more to prove. We will conduct a legiti-
mate struggle alongside the judicial struggle. That is, we will
shorten this period. A legal process lasts about two years. There
are various ways to get it going and speed it up.” This seemed log-
ical to us. We, 18 people, gave CHD lawyers power of attorney.
On 27 February we were with Hey Textile workers and exposed
these phony bosses. On May Day we marched to the edge of Tak-
sim. Every Saturday and Wednesday we marched from Sisli
mosque to the front of the factory. On Sundays we went to the
bosses’ house. These actions were positive, they changed residence
three times.
