Interview
The Resisting And Producing Kazova Workers Say:
By Resisting We Will Win!
We did an interview with the Kazova Trikotaj workers who
for 185 days have been resisting and occupying as a first in the his-
tory of Turkey’s working class and have now started production.
They have told us how they started resistance, up to how they have
begun to produce.
Yuruyus: You have been continuing resistance for months to
get your rights. Your resistance is a first in the history of Turkey.
The resistance will be an example to oppressed workers. Can you
introduce yourself and share your thoughts on this subject?
Serkan Gonul: I am 40 and I have been working at Kazova
for three and a half years. We were working but did not get paid.
They had us working long hours and we had no chance to say, ‘I
can’t come, I’m working.’
Of course you have to come.
When things are like that, there was unhappiness as a result
of not being paid. Recently bailiffs started to come by because of
sequestration and we realised that something was wrong. But on
the one hand we were continually working, we were thinking
“Every workplace has problems, these are problems they can over-
come, in the end this is a film that has been on the go for 67
years.” They said, work harder, save the firm. This period went on
one, two months, then it was four months. We worked four
months without being paid.
