First of all, we marched and read our press statements. Then
we set up a tent in front of the factory.
Y: What impact did this create on your bosses? Do you believe
you will win?
Arif Ramazan Aktas: We heard they removed thread,
sweaters and materials from the factory. At the moment there are
still machines there. To stop those from being removed we put up
a tent there. They did not take our hopes away. I believe we will
win.
Yuruyus: Can you introduce yourself?
Umran Gursoy: My name is Umran Gursoy. I was born in
Ordu in 1965. I have been working in this workplace for 17 years.
Y: Why are you resisting? Can you tell us what you experi-
enced?
Umran Gursoy: I retired from here. But I did not get four
months’ wages or compensation. So I joined the resistance.
We have spent years in this factory. We want our rights and
what we earned through labour. Marches, press statements, week-
ends in front of the bosses’ houses where we read out press state-
ments and hold sit-down protests – that has been done by us and
we are continuing them. I have taken part in a number of actions
and will continue to do so.
When we found nobody to address we decided to set up a
tent. Yes, I think we will win. I have never lost hope. To get every-
one to know we go to TV stations and the newspapers. We will
