Y: Did you get to know the DIH at the Hey textile actions?

Serkan Gonul: When talking to the CHD, we also encoun-
tered the DIH from the start. They supported our actions and
showed us the way. They were at our side from the first days. We
do these actions three days a week but there was one thing we for-

got. They say the enemy never sleeps, our bosses also do not re-
main inactive. On the days we did not come here, there were some
toadies and foremen who gave them the key so they could remove
material. We learned that one night a lorry came and removed
items. We immediately came but were too late, we could not catch
them. We said they would not stand still, they would remove the
machines. Moreover, we did not know what was left inside. After
this we said they would not be able to removed anything, because
on 29 April we pitched a tent. After 29 April they could not get

in. To create a cover for their thefts they complained to a police
station that thieves had taken items from the premises. Quite un-
grateful. We cannot even give their names.

At this time the DIH moved into action. The DIH said we
were workers and told us our rights. If it had not been for them
the idea of setting up a tent might not have occurred to us. It
might not have occurred to us to go to their (the bosses’) homes,
or to Taksim. The DIH suggested all these, and we accepted as we

          found it to be logical.

Y: So they determined the form of the struggle…

Serkan Gonul: Of course all the Kazova workers who came
here are succeeding and are waging a struggle, but if it were not
for the DIH we would not have come as far. Because of their
