That evening we arranged the carriers, we arranged the depot, we
said to the friends inside: these thieves will come in the night and
remove our property like thieves. We also said that the property
was ours by right, it was not necessary to remove it by night, we
would remove it by daylight, we are not thieves. At half past ten
we began to move things. There were two police, later there were
20 of them, perhaps more. They departed and then plainclothes
police came, saying such and such a prosecutor told us we were to
pay no attention to the machines. At that point a firm called Fer-
zol, three buildings along to the left, called its boss, and he said,
”That building is mine, these worker friends can enter the build-
ing whenever they wish and I will not complain.” So they did not
do anything. We also put the machinery back. We could not hand
it over but here there was a quantity of thread, machines with the
motors dismantled, needles extracted… While we were thinking
about what to do we found a number of sweaters that did not have
collars, we arranged for collars to be put on them, stitched them
and ironed them. We gave money out of our pockets and sold
them. With the money we earned we paid for motors for the ma-
chines, money on top and missing materials. We moved into ac-
tion and started working. We are engaging in production, if only
partially, and we will increase our capacity with the money we
make, whatever machines might be lacking.
Y: OK, what kind of difficulties are you facing?
Serkan Gonul: The most important is this: it is obvious that
the worker cannot be a class by himself. You can call an expert
worker and say, come, you are a worker like us, there is resistance
here… A lot of friends are already showing a lot of self-sacrifice,
