Royal River Chorus
Spring in Maine is always a mixed bag of weather, and, well, that’s the beauty of it too! It certainly keeps
things interesting on rehearsal nights. On a chilly evening, with doors to the hall open for the best
ventilation, we’ll need extra layers, gloves, scarves. Other nights, we’ll arrive warmly dressed only to find
that as we get in shape for the risers—with four-square dancing, physical warmups and visual
communication prep for our regional competition—we’re peeling away all the layers! We still have a few
“Zoomers” at rehearsals, and we love their stick-to-itiveness and dedication. At least they are comfortable
in their homes as they dance and sing along!
Royal River members have had a lot of fun over the past few years looking on as some of our younger
members—Breanna, Mariah and Andi—started their families, and we waited to see if they might be
adding to the next generation of Sweet Adelines. Until this month, three quarters of a potential quartet
had “sprouted.” On March 10, a candidate for the fourth member was born. At just two weeks old,
Carolina, known as “Lina,” made her chorus rehearsal debut, which included a diaper change, an adoring
audience of chorus aunties, singing on the risers, and helping mom teach the competition visual plan.
Project “grow your own chorus members” is well underway!
How excited are we that regional competition is back? As much as we are nervous (for so many reasons),
we are thrilled to put a bit of SAI normalcy back into our lives. We are very excited for the music that
will be made during regionals, whether for evaluation or scoring, live or virtual, large groups or small.
We’re just so happy to sing! Our director, Rhonda Williams, who will be directing her first contest,
shared, “I’m beyond excited for this journey and so very proud of you all! Let’s do this!”
Future Sweet Adelines? Ellie, Veronica and Amira enjoy a playdate. Eat first, sing later.
