EMERGENCIES

The Crisis Response Plan addresses emergencies, all drills and their related procedures. Instructors
must become familiar with all drills and codes. If there is a medical emergency in your classroom,
you are to dial 111 on your classroom phone and seek assistance from the main office.
                       Code Red—lockdown. No movement.
                       Code yellow—lockdown. Continue instruction.
Code White—Bomb threat. Evacuate or shelter in-place. Do not adjust lights or electronics.
No use of radios or cell phones.
Code Blue—Evacuation or Shelter in place.
                       Code Green—All Clear.
Fire—evacuate using predesignated route if possible.
Tornado—shelter in place or follow the instructions given over the P.A. from administration.

         EMERGENCY LESSON PLANS

Ten (10) days’ worth of emergency lesson plans should be on file with each department chairperson
and the main office no later than September 4. These will be used only in the event of an emergency
absence. Instructors are expected to leave a detailed current lesson plan on their desks, for substitutes
to use during planned absences. Daily schedule, seating chart, attendance rosters, and other materials
should also be on the instructor’s desk. Instructors must create new emergency lesson plans once the
               initially created ones are used.

         EMPLOYEE-STUDENT RELATIONSHIPS

All school personnel are strictly prohibited from engaging in unacceptable relationships and/or
communications with students. These include, but are not limited to the following: dating, any form
of sexual touching or behavior, making sexual, indecent or illegal proposals, gestures or comments,
and/or demonstrating any other behavior which gives an appearance of impropriety.
At no time should an employee touch a student in any manner unless the child poses a serious danger
to himself or others. Appropriate techniques other than touching would include: talking/conferencing
with the student. Failure to understand and practice this will result in immediate termination.
Instructors should never be alone behind closed doors with a student. The classroom door is to be
propped open if the instructor is in a room with a single student. Instructors are not permitted to
engage in personal calls or texts (including the various forms of social media) with a student.

         EMPLOYMENT
Somerset College Preparatory Academy and Somerset Academy St. Lucie are not-for-profit companies
which operate Charter Schools. It is not part of the Saint Lucie County School District, but operates in
accordance with both the State of Florida and the Saint Lucie County School District’s guidelines for
Charter Schools. All employees hired by SCPA/SASL work for ADP and SCPA/SASL, not the Saint
               Lucie County School System.

         EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT EDUCATION (ESE)
Students with disabilities, that have met the St. Lucie County criteria for eligibility, participate in the
ESE program. These Students all have Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) that contain
exceptionality, present levels of performance, goals, services and accommodations regarding each
student’s needs. Accommodations established in these plans must be adhered to daily. Instructors
are to keep a copy of all of their ESE students’ IEP’s Accommodations Page in a secure location
which is easily accessible for reference purposes. Instructors are to identify ESE students in their
